wyvern mini for my Dungeons & Dragons 5E games

Focus on a D&D 5E mini: wyvern

Why bother with a wyvern miniature?

Wyverns are a common baddie in Dungeons and Dragons, from 5E back to the beginnings. These Dragons are great for dungeon masters, because not only are they a great menace by themselves, but if that’s not scary enough they can have riders who work with the wyvern to ruin the day of the PC’s. It gives you a great opportunity to easily match the strength of the party to an opposing force for a battle.

What about this mini?

This is an unpainted miniature from WizKids‘ Nolzur’s Marvelous Miniatures line, Wyvern #73714. Although this mini was challenging to photograph well, it’s a nice sculpt. More importantly (to me), it is on a large base, which is the correct size for the mini, making me happy.

How useful is this mini, really?

Wyverns are included in 17 published Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition books:

Wyverns are in nearly half of the published books, showing how common they are. If you run published adventures, you will need the mini sooner rather than later. I like them for my homebrew campaign as well- they are fun monsters which people can ride on as well to make them even scarier.

But why are you doing this?

As usual for these videos, my aim is to provide good views of the miniature and sizing information about it. As I already said, the wyvern has a large base size and that’s the correct size. Also, as usual I would like to thank wildlife artist Sherrie Yorkauthority on reduction linocut art, for kindly allowing me to use one of her masterworks, Shivano Sunset, as the backdrop for the minis.
