sprite mini which I use in my Dungeons & Dragons 5E games

Focus on a D&D 5E mini: sprite

Why bother with a sprite miniature?

Sprites are mischievous little Fey creatures, like pixies, but unlike pixies, sprites are fine with injuring the bad folks around them, especially ones looking to harm nature. Their arrows are poisoned and will put people to sleep, which is an exciting element of a combat with tiny little flying people who keep turning invisible. Their villages are built in trees (or treants), and having an entire village attacking you would be like hitting a bee hive with a stick, but the bees are invisible and can also put you to sleep while trying to kill you. What dungeon master in their right mind wouldn’t want to use sprites?

What about this mini?

This miniature, like the ochre jelly baby, the cat, the raven, the pixie, the giant weasel, the giant riding lizard, and the hezrou miniatures, is a bit problematic. This unpainted metal miniature is from Otherworld Miniatures, a company which I have bought many minis from over the years. It has very recently closed due to the owner’s retirement, so their minis are no longer available for purchase directly from them. However, it has closed so recently that Otherworld Miniature products are still available in retail shops and on the internet. As a result, I’m putting a number of videos of their miniatures up now so if you like the mini(s), you can scout around for them before they are all gone. Supposedly, they were going to sell their molds to another company, but nothing has been heard on that for months, so it’s anyone’s guess who has the molds or if anyone will be making more of their minis at this point. If you want one of their minis, this is probably the time to look for them, in case they are not available in future. I have quite a few of their miniatures, because I really like them. This particular one is part of a pack of 4 tiny creatures, Lesser faerie folk #WE6. There are other useful fey folk in this pack, including the pixie which I have already featured as well as a leprechaun and a brownie. The base size for the sprite is tiny, as it is meant to be, which fills me with joy.

How useful is this mini, really?

Sprites are included in 14 published Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition books:

That’s quite a few of the published materials- if you run the published campaigns, you will probably need a sprite at some point, likely sooner than later. If you homebrew like me, sprites are a fun little source of chaos to throw into the mix, so it’s still worth getting a mini. Plus, if you have either a druid or a ranger in your party, you will want one for when they decide to cast Conjure Woodland Beings. This one is a bit of a no brainer, since it comes in a pack with several other Fey who can also get conjured up with that spell. Go ahead and get it- you know that you want to. But do it quickly, in case these become impossible to find.

But why are you doing this?

As usual for these videos, my aim is to both provide good views of the miniatures featured as well as accurate sizing information about them. As I already pointed out, the sprite miniature is on a tiny size base and that’s the correct size. I would like to also thank the wildlife artist Sherrie Yorkmaster reduction linocut artist, for kindly allowing me to use one of her reduction linocuts, Shivano Sunset, as the backdrop for my minis in the video.
