walrus mini that I use in my Dungeons and Dragons 5E games

Focus on a D&D 5E miniature: walrus

Why bother with a walrus miniature?

Why not a walrus mini? They’re cool animals, plus it gives me the excuse to highlight it on Christmas Eve. Seriously though, while they don’t get a lot of love from the official published adventures, they are great Beasts which have a lot of potential if you homebrew your campaigns like I do. You might want to modify the stats a bit (I get into that in the video), but walruses are great animals in general and would be a great addition to your campaign.

What about this mini?

This unpainted miniature comes from one of my favourite mini companies, the Honourable Lead Boiler Suit Company. They have a large selection of dinosaurs, extant as well as extinct marine animals, and plenty more, and I love how realistic their scultps are. You should check them out and see if you like them as much as I do. This particular miniature is their Walrus AA12.

How useful is this mini, really?

Let’s see how many walruses we can find in the official, published Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition books:

Huh, only one. So maybe not the most useful miniature if you’re not running that particular adventure and you don’t homebrew. On the other hand, if you have a druid in the party, walruses are a fun thing to wild shape into, so maybe it’s a good miniature for you after all? For me, it was such a great mini of such a great animal that there was never any question about whether I would be getting one. I have no regrets.

But why are you doing this?

As usual for these videos, my aim is to provide good views and sizing information. Its size is large, as it is meant to be, so that checks out. Also, as usual I want to thank wildlife artist Sherrie York, virtuoso of the reduction linocut, for kindly allowing me to use one of her pieces, Shivano Sunset, as the backdrop for the minis.
